card series, advertisements, and branded collateral
overview
Create advertisement collateral for non-profit organization, Botanical Belonging, based in Tonganoxie, KS. The group focuses on replanting native plant species and education surrounding the different ecosystems in Kansas. The graphics on the cards themselves are hand-carved and block printed for a natural and creative approach.
process
Native plant preservation is important for maintaining ecosystems, in this case, the North American prairies and meadows. These flowers are critical to native pollinators, such as long-tongued bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. Sketching out the flowers was the first step, then roughly sketching out the hand elements and flowers, while also deciding how they will interact together.

process
linocut illustrations were colorized in photoshop, spotlighting the flowers and adding interest. A short fact about each flower is added to the back for education purposes, explaining the importance in the ecosystem. brown textural paper is used for printing due to the eco-friendly aspect and to add interest in a cohesive way. The black color of the hands helps highlight the native flowers and colors, showing the audience a clear focal point. The slenderness of the hand element displays femininity, which pairs well with the delicate flower carvings.
